Jewel Rana Meridian Channel i Khudey Gaanraj 2009

Jewel Rana, 11, was crowned the winner of “Meridian Channel i Khudey Gaanraj 2009″ at the talent hunt’s grand finale held at National Women’s Sports Complex in Dhanmondi on February 13. Jhuma became the first runner up and Porshi was announced the second runner up.
The event drew a huge audience, approximately 30,000 people crammed the venue during the performances and many more watched the show aired live on Channel i.
Titled “Mahotshab,” the event started with an acoustic presentation of the patriotic song — “Dhano dhanney pushpey bhora.” The performance was directed by Manam Ahmed.
A colourful dance performance by 150 children from ‘Khudey Pandit-er Pathsala’ followed. Children attired in green, red and yellow costumes danced with patriotic songs “Purbo digantey,” “Aaji Bangladesher hridoy hotey” and a song heralding spring “Bashonto phul gathla mala”.
Next was a performance by the top 20 contestants of “Khudey Gaanraj.” They performed “Moder gorob moder asha amori Bangla bhasha.”
One of the major attractions of the programme was a duet performance of “Shudhu gaan geye parichay” by iconic singer Sabina Yasmin and Asha, the youngest contestant of the talent hunt.
The highlights were final performances by the top 5 — Sadyo, Porshi, Jhuma, Saran and Jewel.
Sadyo performed “Shajoni go tumi chhara,” Saran sang “Tomra kunjo shajao go,” Porshi rendered “Premey porechhey,” Jhuma performed “Jao pakhi bolo tarey” and Jewel sang “Ma tumi amar agey.”
During the performances the audience was allowed to vote for their favourite “Gaanraj”.
The winner was selected based on scores given by the judges and SMS votes.
Jewel was awarded a cash prize of Tk 5 lakh. Jhuma won Tk 3 lakh and Porshi won Tk 2 lakh. The cash prizes were given by Otobi.

Shykh Seraj, director of news, Channel i; Faridur Reza Sagor, managing director, Channel i and Impress Telefilm Ltd., S.M. Kamal Pasha, managing director, Meridian Foods Ltd. and Animesh Kundu, managing director, Otobi handed over the prizes. Apart from prizes, each of the top 12 also received free educational facilities and sponsorship from twelve organisations. Prime Bank Ltd., Trust Bank Ltd., Advance Development Technologies, United Commercial Bank, Eastern Bank Ltd., City Bank Ltd, Premier Bank Ltd., Janata Bank Ltd., Destiny Group, Crown Cement, Maan Bangladesh Ltd. and Sheltech Private Ltd. will be bearing all educational expenses of the top 12 contestants for the next 10 years. by Mainul Hasan, First published on DS
