Khude Gaanraj 2009 begins

The second phase of the music talent hunt programme for children titled Meridian-Channel I Khude Gaanraj 2009 began on Sunday. The inaugural programme, jointly organised by Meridian Groups and Channel-i, was held at Dhaka Sheraton.

Channel-I chairman Faridur Reza Sagar and Meridian Groups chairperson Kohinur Kamal addressed the programme. Singers Shakila Zafar, Khurshid Alam, Rizia Parvin, and writer Imdadul Haq Milon, among others, were present at the programme.

Eminent litterateur and director Humayun Ahmed and his wife Meher Afroz Shaon will be judges of the programme for this year. Model Tinni will be the new host of the second phase of talent hunt programme.

Faridur Reza Sagar said that the programme received a huge response from the audience and that it had become the largest platform for the children to nourish their musical talent.

Humayun Ahmed congratulated Channel-i and Meridian Groups for arranging the programme for children. ‘The programme will give me an opportunity to spend some time with the talented young artistes’, he said.

The winners of the Khude Gaanraj 2008, Jewel Rana, Jhuma and Saran together with Kuntol, Imran and Asha came onto the stage and sang the song ‘Tumi gaile pore ta hoye jay gaan’.

The Khude Gaanraj programme was initiated in 2008 with the aim of creating a platform for child singers. It attracted the highest number of TV audience last year.
