Sania Sultana Liza, a girl from Mymensingh, became the Close Up 1, winning the hearts of thousands of fans in the musical hunt of 2008.
She is a first year student in Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam College, Mymensingh. She passed SSC in 2008 from Gouripur Pilot Girls’ High School commerce group. She wants to be a Chartered Accountant (CA) in future and she wants to have a singing career at the same time. She is the eldest child of her parents and has only one loving brother. She considers her father as her greatest inspiration.
Liza wants to reign the world of music and she is really thankful to Closeup 1, Unilever Bangladesh Limited and others for creating such a platform to reach the hearts of millions of audiences.
She received 13,79,951 SMS from the viewers and 38 marks from the judges ––Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul, Partha Barua and Fahmida Nabi.
The grand finale of the competition, organised by Unilever and Ntv, was held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka.
Four aspirant contestants –– Apurba Sarkar from Rajshahi, Atiqur Rahman from Noagaon, Saju Ahmed Sarkar from Kurigram and Sania — appeared before the jury in the final round.
The winner received a cheque for Tk 10 lakh, a car and Tk 50,000 as scholarship for higher education in music.
The Unilever chairman in Bangladesh, Rakesh Mohan, handed over the cheque to the winner while Unilever’s brands and development director, Naushad Ahmed Chowdhury, Ntv’s executive Enayetur Rahman Bappy were present.
Apurba and Saju became first and second runners-up and received Tk 5 and Tk 3 lakh respectively.
The last contestant Saju became fourth and received Tk 1 lakh while the rest of the eight contestants also received the same amount each. The organisers also announced scholarship for the rest top eleven contestants.
The top twelve will get a chance to perform in concerts in Europe and America, said the organisers.
‘Closeup and Unilever will take steps to collect the songs of the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra and later will bring out an album’, said Naushad adding, ‘The proceeds from the album will be donated to the welfare of the singers of the SBBK’.
A total of 541 contestants from across the country participated in the event and viewers sent a total of 3120046 SMS to vote for their favourite contestants, said the organisers.
