“Chitrangada” On ATN Bangla
Tagore’s popular dance-drama “Chitrangada” will be aired today at 5:10pm. Jointly directed by Nahid Rahman and Khaleda Ahmed, this adaptation of “Chitrangada” features danseuse-actress Chandni in the titular role.
Chitrangada, the princess of Manipur, is not some maiden in distress. She is skilled in warfare. Smitten with the legendary warrior Arjun, she asks the gods for a boon. With a divine intervention Arjun is seduced by Chitrangada’s smouldering beauty. Soon after, however, she is faced with a predicament and comes to terms with her self-worth. She asks the gods to take back the boon; if Arjun truly loves her, he would do so with or without her superficial appearance.
Samina Chowdhury performance on Channel i
On the occation of 148th Rabindra birth anniversary, a solo musical programme featuring aritste Samina Chowdhury will be aired on Channel i at 6pm this evening. Samina will render several Tagore songs on the programme. The songs have been dramatised to create a fitting ambience.
The musical programme has been produced and directed by Samina as well.
“Baula Antar” on Ekushey TV
Tagore had touched all aspects of Bengali culture through his music. Baul music with its beautiful subtleties and message of humanism had a profound impact on the Nobel laureate poet as well. Today, on Tagore birth anniversary, Ekushey TV will air a special programme featuring Rabindra Sangeet that follow the Baul tradition. Titled “Baula Antar,” the show will feature young artistes Beauty (”Close Up 1″ finalist), Rezwan (”ATN Tarokader Taroka” winner) and Polash (”Close Up 1 contestant) rendering some Rabindra Sangeet of this genre.
“Baula Antar,” produced jointly by Rishita Jahan and Saiful Islam, will be aired this evening at 6:15pm.
“Sriman” on ntv
To mark the Tagore birth anniversary, special programme “Sriman” — featuring recitation — will be aired tonight on ntv at 6:45pm.
Noted recitors Shimul Mustafa, Hasan Arif, Mahidul Islam and actor-recitors Jayanta Chattopadhyay and Nima Rahman will recite writings and poems of Tagore.
“Haimanti” on Banglavision
Banglavision will air a special TV play, an adaptation of Tagore’s widely read short story “Haimanti,” on the occasion of Rabindra Jayanti. Scripted and directed by Qawnain Shourabh, the play features National Award-winning actress Shashi in the titular role. The cast also includes Rawnak Hasan, Dr. Enamul Haque and Bhaswar Bandopadhyay.
Haimanti, a young girl who lost her mother in childhood, gets married to the son of a wealthy, cultured family. At her in-laws Haimanti’s freedom, sense of self and dignity are stifled. A heartbroken Haimanti, not accustomed to shackles of hypocrisy, slowly succumbs to death.
The play will be aired tonight at 8:15pm.
“Geetanjali” on Rtv
Featuring dramatisation of poems and songs from Tagore’s “Geetanjali,” a special programme with the same title will be aired today at 10am on Rtv. Farhana Sharmin Shuchi has produced the show.
“Bhuban Bhora Sur” on Desh TV
On the occasion of Rabindra Jayanti, a documentary titled “Bhuban Bhora Sur” will be aired today on Desh TV at 1:30pm.
The documentary narrates noted Tagore artiste and exponent Md. Anisur Rahman’s journey into the world of Rabindra Sangeet. Rahman, also an economist, has been devoted to the melody of Rabindra Sangeet over the years and has developed a style that is very much his own. His thinking and interpretation have been praised by renowned music exponents.
