Baishakhi Music Mela 2009

Baishakhi Music Mela 2009

Bengalis from the different walks of life celebrated Pahela Baishakh on April 14, with some singing and dancing. A dazzling ‘Baishakhi Music Mela’ held at Banani Society Field was organised by Nokia, in order to celebrate the coming of the new Bangla New year. Bengali speaking people from across the world celebrated Pahela Baishakh with joyful festivity. Aside from the Bengalis, people belonging to other ethnic identities also celebrate the day as their new year, with their own traditions and customs. Banani Society field was turned into a festive ground during the day, with the concert.

Thousands of people danced to the accompaniment of music from Dolchhut, Arnob, Artcell, Miles and Warfaze. The participating musicians kept performing one after another in this excruciating Baishakh heat.

The concert started at 2:30pm with traditional Bengali dhak-dhol and kansha. The sound of the instruments cast a spell on the audience with the trance-like music that the instrumentalists played. The second performance was by Dalchhut, and they were welcomed on the stage by the audience with loud clapping. The band started their performance by singing ‘Esho Hey Baishakh Esho Esho’ of Rabindranath Tagore. Next were their popular tracks over the years - Din Bari Jai, Pari, Bioscope, Tirhara Aai Dheuyer Sagor Pari Dibo, Mon Chhuyechho.

The crowd tingled with excitement as Arnob took the stage with his melodious fusions. Everyone listened intently as they sang along with some of Arnob’s classics, including Tomar Jonno, Hok Kolorob, Shay Je Boshe Achhe and others.

After that came Artcell, the young generation’s heartthrob, and took over the stage by storm with heavy metal music. After the soulful songs by Arnob, they set a new pace and brought more momentum to the concert. They performed Chilekhoter Sepoy, Adekha Swarga, Anya Samay, Aniket Prantar and so on.

Miles, a legendary band of the country, met each and every expectations of their fans with their performances of Jala, Chad Tara, Hello Dhaka, Shesh Thikana, Jatiya Sangeeter Ditiyo Line, and ended their performance with Firiey Dao. The audience got up on their feet to dance along with the music.

The prime attraction of the concert was the performance by Warfaze. At the programme the latest album by Warfaze was launched. Titled “Poth Chola,” the album is a compilation of the best songs by the band including new tracks — “Tomakey” and “Omanush.” Other songs featured in the album are — “Boshey achhi,” “Obak bhalobasha,” “Hotasha,” “Nei proyojon,” “Shadhikaar,” “Joto durey,” “Dhushor manchitro,” “Asha,” “Shomoy,” “Oshamajik” and “Poth chola.”

After the CD launch Warfaze performed some of their mega hits. When the sun finally set, Warfaze ended the concert with their exciting performance of the tracks called Asamajhik, Hotasa, Nei Proyojon, Mone Pore, Joto Doorey and Maharaj. They also launched their latest album Path Chala during the concert.

Nowfel Anower, one of the organisers from Nokia said, ‘Music is a vibrant part of our Bengali culture and we are delighted to celebrate Pohela Baishakh along with all this music lovers. Although, style of music may differ from country to country, one thing that remains the same is the connection that music creates.’

Concert was organised by Nokia, and NTV and Radia Foorti as the media partners. This was the third time that Nokia has arranged this music festival.
