Bangla Academy honours Nurul Islam

Bangla Academy honoured Nurul Islam ‘Kabya Binod’ on his 100th birthday last Wednesday.
The academy organised a book fair and a discussion at the Rangpur Town Hall premises on the occasion.
Vice Chancellor of Begum Rokeya University Professor Dr. Abdul Jalil inaugurated the two-day book fair and spoke at the discussion.
Professor Jalil praised Nurul Islam’s flair for poetry and rhyme.
He said that people of Rangpur would always remember the poet who has tried to uphold the cultural traditions of North Bengal in his writing.
In the afternoon a cultural programme and another discussion on the life and works of Nurul Islam were held by Bangla Academy in association with Chhandashik Sangskritik Sangathan.
Director general of Bangla Academy, Shamsuzzaman Khan; deputy director Murshid Uddin Ahmed; former principal of Carmichael College, Dr. Rezaul Hoque; litterateur MA Bashar Tipu and Professor Alim Uddin, among others, spoke at the discussion.
Shamsuzzaman Khan said that Bangla Academy would further honour Nurul Islam by conferring a fellowship for his contribution to Bangla literature and culture.
