Baul music workshop in Kushtia

A five-day workshop on Baul music recently ended in Kushtia. The programme was jointly organised by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and UNESCO.
A closing programme was held here at Kushtia Shilpakala Academy last Friday evening.
Vice-chancellor of Kushtia Islamic University, Dr. M. Alauddin, handed certificates among the participating Bauls.
Director general of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Kamal Lohani, presided over the programme.
Additional deputy commissioner (ADC-general) and vice-president of Kushtia Shilpakala Academy, Ashok Kumar Debnath; former treasurer of Kushtia Islamic University, Dr. Anwarul Karim; director of the UNESCO project to safeguard Baul songs, Nazrul Haque; Saimon Zakaria, who conducted the workshop, among others, spoke on the occasion.
Amirul Islam, general secretary of Kushtia Shilpakala Academy, gave the welcome speech.
A total of 120 Bauls of different ages took part in the workshop.
The chief guest in his speech lauded the project and urged all to uphold the tradition of this genre belonging to mysticism.
