Baul Shommilon Satkhira 2009

A daylong conference of Bauls was held on April 4 at Kalaroa Public Institute premises at the Upazila headquarters amidst much festivity and enthusiasm. The conference — first of its kind in the area — on secular and non-communal values was organised by Kalaroa Upazila Baul Conference Udjapan Committee. Kalaroa Upazila chairman, B.M. Nazrul Islam, was the chief guest while executive magistrate A.K.M. Azadur Rahman was special guest.

The conference was chaired by Azibar Rahman. Among others, executive magistrate Md. Obaidur Rahman; Professor Tapan Kumar Mondal; Advocate Ali Ahmed; journalists Ruhul Quddus, Azadur Rahman, Kamruzzaman, Aminur Rashid, Dipak Sheth, Palash Chowdhury, Mosharraf Hossain and Azadur Rahman spoke on the occasion. Dr. B.G. Maula presented the keynote paper at the conference.

At the conference, a 21-member committee headed by Azibar Rahman and Amir Ali as president and general secretary respectively, was formed. Speakers praised the organisers for holding the conference and urged them to continue this initiative annually to encourage traditional practices and heritage of the country. A procession was brought out to mark the occasion. A cultural program followed.
