|
To celebrate the first day of Falgun (first month of spring in Bengali calendar), a colourful procession was brought out from Shaheed Minar premises in the town. The procession made its way through the main streets before ending at its starting point. The advent of spring was celebrated recently amidst festivity in Panchagarh.
Hundreds of people, including children, attended the rally clad in bashonti (saffron) attire.
After the procession, Deputy Commissioner of Panchagarh, Banamali Bhowmick and Principal of Panchagarh Mokbulur Rahman Government College, Professor Giasuddin Ahmed, delivered speeches.
Thanking people for joining the programme, they said that Bashonto (spring) reawakens nature and is considered to be the season of love. It is also known as the ‘king of the seasons’ to Bengalis. The enthusiastic participation of the people in such programmes help to preserve our heritage, they went on to add.
Later, a cultural programme was held, with performances by artistes of Panchagarh Shilpakala Academy.
The cultural programme began with a chorus of “Aha Aaji E Bashontey”.
Then Satyendranath Roy rendered a Nazrul Geeti “Ashey Bashonto Phool Bon-e”.
