Kalim Sharafi’s 86th birthday celebrated

The 86th birthday of Kalim Sharafi, the doyen of Tagore songs in the country, was celebrated at Shaukat Osman Memorial Auditorium of the Central Public Library in Shabagh on Friday, The artistes of Bangladesh Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha, a platform of the singers of Tagore songs, arranged a celebration programme in the morning of the day.
Besides the members of the organisation, people of different walks of life congregated on the compound of the Public Library to wish the doyen. Among the singers of Tagore songs Tapan Mahmud, Bula Mahmud, Sajed Akbar, Salma Akbar, and Amina Ahmed greeted Kalim Sharafi with bouquets of flowers on the occasion of his birthday. Bangladesh Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha handed over a crest to him. The organisation celebrated the day by cutting a cake which was sent by the Igloo Ice-cream Company as a gift.
Artistes of the organisation sang three Tagore songs wishing him. Kalim Sharafi gave his voice with the songs as well. The songs were ‘Akash Bhora Surya Tara’, ‘Agun Jalo’ and ‘Mukta Karo Bhoy’ respectively.
Earlier, the organisation arranged a congregation of the artistes of Tagore songs as a part of the organisation’s five-day national festival of Tagore songs. The organisation arranged a screening of the documentary on Rabindranath Tagore by Satyajit Ray. Today (May 9th) the festival will begin at 9:00 in the morning with a special music programme. The function will resume at 5:30pm with recitations from the works of Tagore and soirees of Tagore songs.
