Nazrul’s 111th birth anniversary today

The 111th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, who dreamt of a society free from disparity, exploitation and communalism, will be observed in the country today in a befitting manner.
An elaborate programme has been drawn up Nationally to mark the occasion. The main programme of the day will be held at Nazrul Mancha at Trishal in Mymensingh.
President Zillur Rahman will inaugurate the main programme as the chief guest at 11.30 am.
LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Syed Ashraful Islam will be present as the special guest at the function, while State Minister for Cultural Affairs Promod Mankin will preside over it.
Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar will broadcast the main programme live. Besides Trishal, the birth anniversary of the rebel poet will be observed in Dhaka, Chittagong, Darirampur and Doulatpur nationally.
President Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in separate messages paid rich tributes to the memory of the Rebel Poet and prayed for the eternal peace of his departed soul.
In his message, President Zillur Rahman expressed his firm hope that the ideals and spirit of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam would provide all inspirations towards establishing peace and human rights in society.
The President said Nazrul always raised his voice to the highest pitch to uphold the universal value of mankind despite so many obstacles during his time.
“Nazrul’s name will remain ever shining in the history of Bengali language and literature,” the President said adding that his creative works are blessed with eternity by all counts due to their inherent qualities and uniqueness.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, said Nazrul Islam, a poet of equality, humanity and youthfulness, enriched Bengali literature and culture.
She said Nazrul’s dream of establishing a society free from disparity, exploitation and communalism is yet to be materialized.
“Poet Nazrul would inspire the people for ever for successful implementation of our commitment to build Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by establishing a Bangladesh free from hunger, poverty and illiteracy by 2021,” she said.
She said the greatest Bangali of all time and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with utmost respect to the great poet brought him to Bangladesh with his family on May 24 in 1972. Bangabandhu declared him as the national poet of Bangladesh by providing citizenship, she added.
