Shuvra Guha classical concert at Bengal Shilpalaya

Bengal Foundation is does it again. To promote the Bengali music Bengal Foundation has been working for the last couple of years. As a part of the continuation of its activities it organized a classical musical session at the Bengal Shilpalaya at Dhanmondi in the city on Saturday.

Noted Agra-based art-iste Shuvra Guha presented a classical music in the programme. She presented ‘Kheyal’ and ‘Thumri’ in the function. A huge number of audiences gathered and enjoyed the memorable presentation of Shuvra Guha.

Subhra Guha is regarded not only as the finest lady singer but also as an exponent of the Agra Gharana. Though belonging to the Agra Gharana, which is synonymous with the prowess and masculinity of Aftab-e-Mousiqui Ustad Faiyaz Khan, what makes Guha’s rendition style uniquely different is her mature juxtaposition of her feminine charm with masculine grandeur that’s inherent in the Gharana. Guha’s voice effortlessly soars from one octave to the next mesmerizing her aficionados across the globe.

Coming from a music loving family, Guha started showing signs of exceptional talent at a tender age. She received her earliest training from late Shri Satish Bhowmick.

Guha is also a regular artiste of the All India Radio and Doordarshan and has cut albums with reputed companies including HMV, RPG, Music Today and IAM. Not just that, Guha remains the only female scholar to have risen to the stature of a guru at the prestigious Sangeet Research Academy and remained so for 11 years.
