The world sings in Bangla

The three-day International Music Festival to mark the International Mother’s Language Day ends today at the International trade fair ground at Sher-e-Banglanagar in the city.

Eminent Indian singers including Srikanto Acharya, Nachiketa and Haimanti Shukla, Pakistani singer Hasan Jahangir, Canadian pop singer P Nair, US pos star Alexandra Augustynsky and Bangladeshi singers and bands including Miles, Warfaze, Black, Arnab, Tishma, Mehrin, Nancy, Parvez and Anan will perform in today’s programme which begins from 4:30pm.

Noted singers from more than 10 countries including Bangladesh performed on Tuesday.

The programme began with eminent Indian singer Sri Radha Bandyopadhyay’s rendering of Tagore’s ‘Tumi Je Surer Agun Lagiye Dile Mor Prane’.

Eminent Indian singers Sabita Chowdhury, wife of Indian composer Salil Chowdhury and his daughter Antara Chowdhury, and Bappi Lahiri, Arati Mukherjee, Rupankar, and Russian Irina, Singaporean Nadia and German jazz band Chopsticks performed side by side with the Bangladeshi singers including Maqsood O Dhaka, Nova, Arnab, Balam, Shayan, Durbin and Fuad at the programme.

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the programme on Monday.
Event management company Antara Showbiz organised the programme with the slogan ‘The world will sing in Bangla’.

Antara Showbiz director Swapan Chowdhury said that the programme was arranged to bring the whole world to Bangladesh in order to pay tribute to the heroes of the Martyrs’ Day.
