Tribute to Tagore and Nazrul by Sruti

Cultural organisation ‘Sruti’ organised a programme as a tribute to Tagore and Nazrul at the M Saifur Rahman Auditorium in Sylhet city on Saturday.
The day’s programme began with lighting ‘mangal pradip’ in the presence of artistes Lily Islam, Pradip Kumar Nandi, Sumon Ahmed, Amir Azam Chowdhury, convener of Sruti Rabindra-Nazrul Jayonti celebration committee Ashit Bhattacharya, member secretary Sukanta Gupta and Ataur Rahman. Sruti president Rabisankar Maitri chaired the inaugural session.
Ashit Bhattacharya chaired the discussion while Sukanta Gupta, Niranjan Dey Jadu, Sumon Akhand, Amir Azam Chowdhury and Ataur Rahman, among others, also spoke on the occasion.
Speakers discussed the life and works of the two creative titans who immensely enriched Bangla literature and left indelible impressions on Bengali culture.
Sruti artistes later rendered some devotional Tagore songs. Nilanjana Das Jui choreographed the dances.
Lily Islam’s renditions of Rabindra Sangeet enthralled the audience. Pradip Kumar Nandi and Samadrita Roy Chowdhury performed Nazrul Sangeet.
Suranjit Deb Tonu and Manatosh on Tabla, Debashish Banerjee on keyboard accompanied the singers.
