Joler bhetore Joler cholon by SI Tutul

Tutul left LRB but didn’t become a fading star. His number in the film, Bachelor, was a super hit and now he has his third album in the market. Rafi Zahed writes on the new release and thinks that Tutul should also try new ideas in music.
Does this reader remember the tune, ‘Keu prem kore keu preme pore’? Well, avid fans of Tutul will surely know that this single is the soundtrack from the film Bachelor. Not only was the film a hit, the song also proved to be popular among listeners. Suffice to say, this single itself was enough to boost Tutul’s reputation in the music industry.
A former member of the popular band LRB, Tutul paved his own path in the musical world. And, interestingly, he gained massive audience hype within such a short time. To note, his previous albums did well in the market.
Anyway, he is back once again with his third album ‘Joler bhetore, Joler cholon’. The album carries ten songs and, elements of love, despair are the main themes. Now that makes the album a bit stereotyped. Not that this writer is saying that it’s bad, but isn’t it time to do something new?
The album comprises of contemporary beats and composition. ‘They are modern love songs,’ commented one listener. Tutul sings about love, mostly about broken relationships and how it affects one’s life during break-ups. Tracks such as Ridoy churi, bhalobasi tare, Ridoyer lenadena are some tracks which will provoke thoughts in the listener’s mind. Thoughts like, why relationships cannot be simple like anything
else and why pain is always a big part in relationship are recurring subjects.
Numbers such as Bhaber haat, Rangeen dalan have more upbeat tunes with sudden notes of percussion. These songs talk about hope in life. The lyrics say that the power of hope can bring people back to life. After all, life without hope is meaningless. The last song titled ‘Maa’ is an emotional one. Here he sings about the loss of one’s mother and how painful it can be. It seems that Tutul is following the footsteps of other artistes such as James and Ferdous Wahid by singing on an over used theme. But, no harm in that! The album was released in mid April under the banner of Agniveena and Aarshee. Unfortunately, there aren’t any cheesy tracks to which you can sway your body.
However, the bottom line is that this reviewer feels that Tutul should be bold to try new things in his music.
