Bangla Pop Singer Mila

Pop singer Mila has become a familiar name to young music fans. Her vivacious personality comes across in her songs and music videos.

“I felt a connection with music when I was a child. My mother was a Nazrul singer. Almost everyday, before going to the school, I used to practice on the harmonium,” said Mila.

Practicing music was going well for the youngster until she got to class 5. “With academic pressures building up, I had very little time for music,” Mila said. “Despite the mounting pressure, I would find opportunities to sing. At any social occasion, family gathering or school programme I would sing,” she added.

After SSC, Mila made up her mind; she wanted to be a singer. “After the exams I had some free time. I was ready to pursue a career in music seriously but felt like I was almost separated from it.”

Mila began doing live performances to generate funds for a music album. “In 2006 my first album, Phele Asha was released. The album received a positive response and it really encouraged me.” Talking about the album, She added, “My target audience was young urbanites. The response gave me confidence to bring out a second album.”

Mila’s second album Chapter 2 hit the market in 2007. Produced under the banner of G Series, the album was a huge success. Almost all the songs featured in the album were hits.

“Both Fuad bhai (the composer) and I worked really hard for the second album. I was ecstatic that our hard work finally paid off!” said Mila.

“Two songs, Baburam shapurey (second song in the album) and Jatrabala (fourth songs) were particularly targeted towards the masses,” the artiste said.

Other hit numbers from Chapter 2 are: Chander buri, Srabon, Obhiman, Shukhno Patar Nupur (a Nazrul song) and Cherapal.

About her future plans, Mila said, “I plan to bring out albums regularly but not more than one a year.”
